We have a new addition!

In my life as a mom, I have learned that kids and pets just seem to go together, so our new addition is a blue heeler puppy. The man we got him from is named Rooster and he was a real character. He had Andrew going in thinking he was not going to get the pup and then as we were leaving Rooster pulled out a dollar bill and promised Andrew that he would get him, if he helped get our fence ready. Rooster started calling this little guy Maverick after the character in the movie the Gambler and I have to admit that the name it sure fits him. So far he’s figured out how to escape the fence (going through it works for now, but we’re feeding him A LOT to fix that issue), that Lyra is suppose to stay in the yard so he herds her when she tries to leave, and that the cats in the neighborhood have claws. He is a lot of fun and with some training will not be such a pain in the butt. Andrew on the other hand is not as sure he wants a dog, something to do with scooping poop from the yard, and having to feed him before having breakfast.

The next pet project is Miss Dawniella and Lyra’s (my) cat Bach. Dawniella loves the kitty, especially the kitty’s tail. Every time the cat comes near, she starts to giggle and talk to the cat. Well you would think the cat would catch a clue and make a rapid retreat, instead she sits down just out of Dawniella’s reach and swishes her tail. Dawniella then wiggles, scoots, and rolls to get the tail, which of course then hits her mouth (you would think that Dawniella would then learn that furry tails are disgusting). When Bach has had enough, she turns around “bites” Dawniella without using her teeth, (Brandt had his hand next to Dawniella on one of these adventures and Bach bit him instead of Dawniella). It is funny that Bach is so patient with Dawniella, but I am just waiting for the crawling stage and then we will see how quick Bach can hide.

Our final project has been the bunny trap in our driveway. Last year at our family reunion, Andrew became obsessed with building a bunny trap. So now that he has seen a bunny in our driveway he has decided that its time to catch it. He and Lyra have been working very hard and I have had a lot of lettuce and carrots disappearing from my fridge, but still no bunny. I do not think I will tell them anytime soon that most self respecting bunnies would be staying very far away from our house with the dog here, because it sure is nice to have the kids involved in a project!

Hmmm...I remember a little girl about Lyra's age running all over her yard in Soap Lake with a white bucket in one hand and a box of salt in the other because her mama told her if she salted a bird's tail it would be her pet!!! Love You.
